Sue Lord is a retired NHS professional with a distinguished career spanning over 30 years. Following her retirement, she has channeled her energy into community service and advocacy, becoming a prominent figure in Cheshire’s charitable landscape.
Her Story
Sue’s involvement in community support is extensive. She has served as a personal assistant to the Superintendent Minister of the Methodist Circuit in South Cheshire and has played a crucial role in various charitable endeavors. Her work includes volunteering at food banks, coordinating her church’s response to the Homes for Ukraine initiative, and supporting local Ukrainian refugees.
In addition to her current activities, Sue has previously served as a trustee for Refugees Welcome, reflecting her longstanding commitment to refugee support. She is well-connected within Cheshire, using her network to organize community events, fundraisers, and charity initiatives. Her efforts have been instrumental in the success of the Pride of Romany Projects. Charmaine Abdul Karim, Director, has praised Sue's contributions, stating, “Sue, though she would never seek recognition for her work, has been a cornerstone in advocating for the Pride of Romany. Her tireless dedication and unwavering commitment have profoundly impacted our mission. Her ability to connect people and foster meaningful change is truly remarkable. Sue's work is not just a series of acts of kindness but a testament to her deep compassion and relentless pursuit of justice for our community.”
Sue has expressed her astonishment at the similarities between British Romany history and Native American experiences, particularly regarding the removal of sacred stopping places. She compares this historical injustice to the erasure of Native American sites, underscoring a broader societal unawareness of these critical issues.
Through her faith, values, and tireless work, Sue Lord remains a vital and respected member of her community, continuously advocating for equality and support for marginalized groups.
